2010
Western Kentucky Outdoors
Trophy Buck
Hunts
Archery,
Crossbow, Muzzleloader,Rifle
Our hunts for the 2010 season are
listed below. We will continue to limit bookings. For 2010 we will be hunting over 3,000 acres across
several farms and 3 counties.
Having a
number of properties allows us to spread out hunting
which helps control and reduce hunting pressure in general.
This also allows us to take advantage of certain activities
and patterns several times a year. A perfect example
is being able to hunt a "Fresh" harvested
corn field pattern multiple times from mid to late September
until mid to late October. Having your land in one location
and limited sources of agriculture does not support
this. Same goes for soy beans. Plantings can be staggered
so bean fields remain green and active well into September
which has proved great success for us and accounted
for putting double digit numbers of bucks in the P&Y
books.
Below is a list of hunts we are offering for the
2010 season. We have changed up some of our hunt formats
but have not moved away from limiting the number of
hunters we book for each hunt.
September 2010
Typically the early archery
season provides some great hunting on bucks that have
been well patterned and have not been pressured.
September 4-5-6-7th - (BOOKED) This can be a 4-day hunt at the
rate of $700 or
a 3-day hunt for $550.
We will book only 4 Archers for this hunt.
If you choose this hunt you will be hunting
one of the earliest seasons in the country. You will
be hunting for P&Y class bucks at a time when they could
still be in full velvet. The first 2 weeks of the season
is your best chance at taking a buck in full velvet
and we suggest anyone wanting a buck in velvet choose
this hunt for their best opportunity. A $250
non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt
dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
September 10-11-12th --
(BOOKED)This is scheduled as a 3-day hunt
at the rate of $550. You will be hunting
early season P&Y class bucks that are feeding on the
rich soybeans of west Kentucky. We will have these bucks
patterned and stands in place. Due to high temps, this
hunt mostly involves hunting the first few hours of
daylight and last light of the day. Bring your Thermacell.
Generally we see the deer changing food sources as we
get into late Sept. along with their daily patterns.
A $250 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance
is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
September 17-18-19th-
- This is scheduled as a 3-day
hunt at the rate of $550. This hunt is
a 3-day hunt still centered around food sources. Bucks
will have shed their velvet by now and begin establishing
their own core areas. Food sources at this time can
continue to be soy beans, soft mass, corn and it's not
unusual to have some acorns on the ground. We will have
these bucks patterned and stands in place. Temperatures
can still be on the hot side and most activity will
be early and late in the day. This is the time when
food sources can change quickly and a spur in activity
resulting from a corn field being cut or a oak dropping
acorns. A $250 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance
is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
October 2010
October 1st-2nd-3rd - This 3-day
hunt is $550. and will be focused on food sources, Acorns
and cut corn fields with most hunting taking place in
transition areas or setups over fresh acorns hitting
the ground or other soft mast. A $250 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due
before for your first day of hunting.
October 9th/10th- Youth Firearm
Hunt - This
is a 2-day season and a hunt cost
of $400. Unlike most Outfitters we do not charge
for an extra person being afield with their Youth. We
welcome it. This hunt is geared to Youth just getting
started in hunting and covers the 2-day hunt for 1 Youth.
This hunt involves setups in high traveled areas that
almost guarantee deer movement. This is not a doe only
hunt. However, this is a hunt that is setup to provide
an eventful day afield while providing your youth hunter
the chance to harvest a deer, which means it is more
probable that a doe will be taken. A $200 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance
is due before your first day of hunting takes place.
October 16th/17th- Early 2-day
Muzzleloader Hunt - Come take advantage of the early
Muzzleloader season here in Kentucky. Typically the
3rd weekend in October, this is when many of our bucks
begin making rubs and scrapes visible in our hunting
areas. Hunting rub lines can be very successful, as
well as hunting food sources and prime bedding/feeding
travel areas. Light rattling can also be productive
at this time of the year and the use of grunt tubes.
This is a 2-day season/hunt
and is $500 for the hunt. 6 spots remain for this hunt in 2010. A $250
non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt
dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first
day of hunting.
October 28-29-30-31st - (BOOKED)This is currently setup
as a 3-1/2-day hunt but can be expanded into 4 or 5
days. Arrive on Thursday and start
with an afternoon hunt. The
3 1/2 day hunt is $700. If you just want a 3-day
hunt the rate is $600. If you are a bow bender,
this is a great time to be in the woods in Western Kentucky.
Each and every year the beginning of our rut starts
to take shape during this time. Trophy Bucks become
more active and begin making their statements, making
rubs, scrapes, responding to grunting, doe bleats and
rattling can be affective during this time as well.
Warm weather can take its toll, but here at WKO we traditionally
see good action during this time of the year. A $250
non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates.
Balance is due before for your first day of hunting.
November 2010 Archery
November 5-6-7-8th-
(BOOKED)Any 3-day hunt during this period
is at the rate of $750 or $1,000
for the 4-day hunt. These hunts proceed
our State firearm opener. This time typically covers
some of the better rut action here in Kentucky. A lot
of chasing usually takes place during this week, as
well as, some breeding. Bucks are more active by the
day. They are cruising for does, making rubs, checking
scrapes and responding to calls. This period supports
success by calling, with rattling and decoying. Arguably
this is one of the best times to arrow a trophy buck
in our opinion. A $300 or $400 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due
before your first day of hunting.
***We will only hunt the first 9 days of the 2010 Firearm Season*** We limit the number
of hunts we book*** Limiting hunts helps control pressure
*** Limiting pressure supports better hunts not only
for rifle season but also for our late archery hunters
and the late Muzzleloader season in December***
November 2010 Rifle Hunts
November 13-14-15-16th - (BOOKED)This can be a 3 or
4 day hunt. The 3-day hunt is
$950. If booking allows you can make this a 4-day
hunt (14th-17th) for $1200. Experience the opportunity
to firearm hunt during the peak of our rut here in Kentucky.
We will set expectations for the area you are hunting
and be able to provide specific information about bucks
you should look for. Our firearm hunts are very limited
and we suggest booking early. A $450 non-refundable
deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due
before your first day of hunting.
November 18-19-20-21st - (BOOKED) This can be
a 3 or 4 day hunt. The 3-day hunt
is $950. If booking allows you can make this
a 4-day hunt (18th-21st) for $1200.
Don't worry about not being here for the opening weekend
hunt. We experience some of the best hunting mid-season
and have always seen good bucks taken. We will have
stands and properties not yet hunted which means little
to no pressure. We will set expectations for the area
you are hunting and be able to provide specific information
about bucks you should look for. Our firearms hunts
are very limited and we suggest booking early. A $450
non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates.
Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
December 2010 Hunts
December 11-19th - This is a 9-day Kentucky
Muzzleloader season. There is no restriction on Muzzleloading
equipment at this time. Scopes, In-lines, and smokeless
powder are legal. A 3-day hunt
runs $600. Most years we will see a 2nd rut during
this time. Many bucks will be trailing does and checking
areas that does are feeding/bedding trying to find the
doe coming into heat for a second time. This time of
the year can be very cold, rainy and windy. Food sources
will be an important part of our setups. Hunting will
be conducted early mornings and in the afternoons. A
$250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold
your dates. Balance is due before going afield for your
first day of hunting.
December/January Archery Hunts - We consider the late season anything
after the December Muzzleloader season. Any
3-day archery hunt during this time is $450.
This hunt isn't cheap because it's a bad hunt. We just
understand bow hunting and know after pressure from
the rifle season hunting gets tougher. The woods are
open, temps are usually cold and the weather can be
pretty harsh. Most deer are just trying to feed and
keeping out of the elements. We will continue to harvest
deer right on up until the last day of season. We see
our lowest success on bucks on this hunt, but the potential
is there to tag a great buck. Most bucks are focusing
on feeding if they are not laid up. We will hunt tight
to bedding areas or food sources. Both these tactics
will give you the greatest chance at harvesting a late
season buck. A $250 non-refundable deposit is
required to hold your dates. Balance is due before going
afield for your first day of hunting.
